Applying for Your MT Permit
When can I apply for a learner's permit in Montana?
You can apply for a Learner’s Permit at age 16. You can also apply for a permit at age 14½ if you are enrolled in a state approved driver education program.

To receive a Traffic Education Learners’ License (TELL) you must be at least 16 and you must pass a written driver’s knowledge test. You also must pass the state’s medical requirements.
