IN Permit Practice Test

You can apply for your Indiana Learner’s Permit when you are 15 years and 180 days old.

To receive a Learner’s Permit you must be enrolled in a state-approved driver education class and you must pass a vision test. At 16 years and 180 days old, teens who have passed a driver education course can apply for a probationary license. To receive this license, you must pass a written knowledge test and a driving skills test.

There are 24 questions on the test. You will also need to pass a 16-question road sign identification test.

You must answer 80% or more of the written knowledge questions correctly to pass. You can only miss two sign identification questions and still pass.

There is a $9 fee.

You must be accompanied by a parent of guardian to fill out the necessary forms. You will also need to pass the written knowledge test and you may be required to pass the driving skills test at the BMV if you haven’t already passed it in an approved driver education program.
