When can I apply for a learner's permit in Indiana?

You can apply for your Indiana Learner’s Permit when you are 15 years and 180 days old.

What are the requirements to get my learner's permit?

To receive a Learner’s Permit you must be enrolled in a state-approved driver education class and you must pass a vision test. At 16 years and 180 days old, teens who have passed a driver education course can apply for a probationary license. To receive this license, you must pass a written knowledge test and a driving skills test.

How many questions are on the Indiana permit test?

There are 24 questions on the test. You will also need to pass a 16-question road sign identification test.

How many questions must I answer correctly to pass?

You must answer 80% or more of the written knowledge questions correctly to pass. You can only miss two sign identification questions and still pass.

How should I prepare for the Indiana permit test?
